The territorial police in Rubanda District have arrested two suspects in connection with an assault and the defacing of political campaign posters belonging to a government minister.
The suspects, identified as Ndamwesiga Bruno and Ainebyona Isaac, both residents of Kabugu Village, Bushura Parish in Hamuhambo Town Council, were arrested for allegedly attacking a 68-year-old woman, Danavence Tumwebaze, who serves as an agent to the Hon. Minister Henry Musasizi.
According to police reports, the first incident occurred on June 29, 2025, at around midnight when the suspects allegedly threw stones at the complainant’s house and threatened to burn her. The complainant claims she overheard the suspects vowing to remove political posters from her home.
The threats materialized on July 5, 2025, at around 3:00 PM, when Ainebyona allegedly forcefully entered Tumwebaze’s house, tore down the Minister’s campaign poster, broke a plate on the table, and physically assaulted the elderly woman with kicks.
Rubanda District Police Commander Barugahare Abel Kyooto led the operation that resulted in the arrest of the two suspects. They are currently in police custody and will be presented in court as investigations continue.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the arrest and warned the public against politically motivated violence.
The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment ahead of the 2026 general elections.
