Tumuhimbise Isaac, a youthful and passionate leader who had vied for the NRM flag in the Rukungiri Municipality mayoral race, has vowed to continue his political journey despite irregularities that marred the party primaries.
Speaking to his supporters and well-wishers, Tumuhimbise emphasized that although the primary results favored his opponent, the process was far from transparent.
“If our opponents believe they won fairly, that’s their perspective. But we know the truth – our agents were bought, and the process was marred by irregularities,” he said.
Despite the disappointment, Tumuhimbise struck a tone of resilience and determination. “We’ll use this experience to strengthen our resolve and prepare for the general elections. We’ll work harder to build a stronger, more resilient team that’s less susceptible to manipulation,” he added.
Calling on his supporters not to lose hope, Tumuhimbise reiterated his commitment to fight for the rights and interests of the people of Rukungiri. “The real battle is yet to begin, and we’ll face our opponents head-on in the general elections. The people of Rukungiri deserve better, and we’re ready to fight for them.”
The results, announced at 11:35 PM on July 24 at the Rukungiri District Council Hall, showed Matiita securing a landslide victory with 5,106 votes (82.2%) against Tumuhimbise’s 1,105 votes (17.8%).
