The Kanungu District NRM registrar, Mr. Alex Kamukama, has officially declared Rev. Justus Tibesigwa as the elected NRM flag bearer for the position of Kanungu District LCV Chairperson.

Rev. Tibesigwa was announced the winner at exactly 12:40 a.m. on July 25, 2025, during the vote tallying process held at the Kanungu District Council Hall.

He secured victory with 31,979 votes, representing 46.63% of the total vote, defeating Caleb Tumwesigye Kipande, who garnered 29,655 votes (43.24%). The current Vice Chairperson, Henry Mwongera, came third with 6,951 votes (10.13%).

In his post-election remarks, Rev. Tibesigwa expressed gratitude to his supporters for their unwavering dedication throughout the campaign period, despite challenges such as voter bribery and alleged vote rigging in some sub-counties. He urged them to remain focused and continue mobilizing to ensure victory in the upcoming general elections.

Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance and also the NRM Vice Chairperson for the Western Region, congratulated Rev. Tibesigwa on his victory. He praised him for conducting issue-based campaigns and engaging the electorate with clear manifestos, unlike others who resorted to attacking fellow candidates.

However, Dr. Baryomunsi condemned incidents of voter bribery, vote rigging, and vote buying witnessed in some parts of the district. He particularly cautioned leaders in Mpungu Subcounty against manipulating voters for monetary gain, stating that such practices undermine the election of development-oriented leaders.

He further urged NRM members and supporters to rally behind the party’s flag bearer and continue supporting the NRM under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
