Andrewson Charles Katebire has been declared the winner of the NRM party flag for the Rukungiri District LC5 Chairperson seat, following a highly contested primary election.

The announcement was made by the acting Rukungiri District NRM registrar, Mr. Katureebe Elias, who confirmed that Katebire garnered 29,443 votes, representing 50.0% of the total votes cast.

Katebire’s closest rival, the incumbent district chairperson, Mr. Geoffrey Kyomukama, received 14,869 votes, accounting for 25.2%. Other contenders in the race included Angello Twinomuhangi with 9,997 votes, Mbasa Denis, who polled 3,038 votes, Turibyo Steven 867 votes and Rwabatongore Rwishe with 704 votes.

With this victory, Katebire, a former one-term LC5 Chairperson of Rukungiri District, will now represent the NRM party in the upcoming 2026 general elections, where he is expected to face candidates from the opposition and independent camps.
