Residents of Rwemengo village in Bugangari Sub County, Rukungiri District are in a state of shock and grief following the tragic suicide of one of their own. The deceased has been identified as Deogrecious Mugunya, a 45-year-old resident of Omukitengye in Rwemengo village.
Lamuwel Nbyamuhaaki, the chairperson of Rwemengo village, informed our reporter that the unfortunate incident took place on the morning of November 1, 2023. Deogrecious Mugunya was found hanging from a jackfruit tree, having used a piece of cloth for this purpose.
Lamuwel further revealed that the deceased originally hails from Ndele Ruhinda but had relocated to Rwemengo in Bugangari Sub County. It was known in the community that he had been struggling with substance abuse issues, which had led to him driving away his wife and three children, leaving him to live alone. This troubled history of drug abuse is suspected to be a contributing factor to his decision to take his own life.
At the time of our report, the police from Rukungiri had already arrived at the scene and were making efforts to locate and inform his family members, who were currently unaccounted for.
