On Tuesday, in the Kisoro Grade One Magistrate Court, a 21-year-old man named Brain Nizeyimana was sentenced to community service for theft by His Worship Bob Asiimwe, who presided over the case.

Nizeyimana, a resident of Nyatete village in Rwaramba parish, Nyakinama sub-county, Kisoro district, was found guilty of stealing UGX 250,000 on September 24, 2023, from Mbabazi Shallon.

Shallon, the complainant, told the court that she received the stolen money and forgave the convict when he sought forgiveness.

During the sentencing, His Worship Asiimwe took into account that Nizeyimana had spent 21 days in remand, and since it was his first appearance in court for theft, the court applied the guidelines specified in laws 285 and 178. These laws specify that offenses of this kind fall within the court’s jurisdiction and should be appropriately penalized.

As part of the sentence, His Worship Asiimwe ordered Nizeyimana to carry out two months of community service, working three days a week. Failure to comply with this would result in a 23-month prison term.

His Worship advised the convict to consider appealing the decision if he has any doubts about the court’s ruling.
