Police in Rubirizi District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a 20-year-old man who reportedly took his own life after failing to obtain a piece of land from his father.
Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi police, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Javilah Ssentalo, aged 20, a resident peasant of Kasharara II village in Rubirizi parish, Magambo subcounty, Rubirizi District.
It is reported that the deceased had a dispute with his father, Vincent Mugisha, regarding a piece of land he requested from him, which his father refused to grant. This disagreement led to a heated argument between father and son. Allegedly, in the presence of his brother, the deceased attempted to hang himself at the entrance of his bedroom. However, the rope he used broke, causing him to fall.
Ndazarirahi Posiano, the 60-year-old LC1 chairperson of Kasharara II Village, who reported the case to the police, mentioned that the deceased had previously been given land but had sold it off.
Tumusiime stated that the body displayed no visible injuries and was transported to Rugazi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
