Authorities in Bushenyi District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a 22-year-old man who reportedly took his own life by hanging. The incident occurred in Nyakashojwa LCI, Ibaare Parish, Ibaare sub-county, Bushenyi District.
The Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, Marcial Tumusiime, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as 22-year-old Denial Mugabe, who was self-employed and a resident of the same area.
According to Tumusiime, on January 9, 2024, around 13:00, Nuwagira Paul of Nyakashojwa village reported to Kitabi Police Post that his son was found hanging from an avocado tree. The deceased, Denial Mugabe, had last been seen on January 8, 2024, at his parents’ house after returning heavily intoxicated from a bar in Ibaare town.
Reportedly, Mugabe’s mother questioned him about his level of intoxication, but he did not respond and moved away. Concerns arose the next morning when he could not be located, leading to a search that ultimately discovered him hanging from a rope on a tree by his sister, Amumpiire Agnes. She promptly informed their father of the tragic discovery.
It was noted that the body exhibited no external injuries. Subsequently, the body was removed from the tree and transported to Kampala International Teaching Hospital for a postmortem examination. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
