Police in Kanungu have apprehended Gideon Muganirwe, a 33-year-old man, on charges of murdering his 17-year-old daughter, Precious Kyosimire, and critically injuring his wife, Faustina Katuhebwa.
The incident occurred in Kahama village, Nyakashure parish, Nyamirama sub-county, Kanungu district, at the charcoal burning workplace on January 9, 2024, around 02:00hrs.
Allegedly, during a dispute with his wife, Katuhebwa Faustina, over money while she was asleep, the suspect grabbed a machete and attacked both his wife and biological daughter.
The victims sustained severe injuries and were promptly transported to Kihihi Health Centre for initial treatment. Unfortunately, Precious was later referred to Nyakibale Hospital in Rukungiri district, where she was declared dead.
Joshua Arinaitwe, a bystander, reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect. The crime scene was visited, documented, and a postmortem was conducted at Nyakibale Hospital in Rukungiri district.
Gideon Muganirwe is currently in custody at Kihihi Central Police Station, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
