The police in Rubanda are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 41-year-old man named Godon Asimwe. The victim allegedly faced assault from his wife, Fortunate Kesande, which ultimately led to his demise.
Reports suggest that the couple had been experiencing longstanding domestic issues. On Christmas day, 25/12/2023, around 12:00hrs, an altercation ensued between the husband and wife. During the dispute, Asimwe reportedly grabbed an axe from the compound with the intent to harm his wife. In the ensuing struggle to disarm him, the axe accidentally struck him on the forehead, causing an injury.
Asimwe opted for traditional healing at home to address the wound. However, by 04/01/2024, the pain escalated, prompting Kesande to contact Bigyemano Francis. Francis reported the assault to the Bunyonyi police post and took Asimwe to Rugarama Hospital in Kabale. On 08/01/2024, he was referred to Mbarara but was instead taken back home. Sadly, Asimwe succumbed to his injury on 09/01/2023 around 10:00hrs.
The crime scene was thoroughly examined, witness statements were obtained, a postmortem was conducted, and the body was released to the family for burial. An axe, believed to be the weapon involved, was recovered at the scene. Kesande, the wife, was apprehended to assist in the ongoing investigation. The case remains under inquiry.
