In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the serene community of Rukarara village in the Kanungu district, 13-year-old Kakuru Constance met a tragic end on the evening of January 4, 2024. The suspect, identified as Turyasingura Joshua, is now under investigation for his alleged involvement in the heinous crime.
Nabaasa Milika, a 38-year-old Mukiga peasant and mother of the deceased, reported the incident on January 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM. The victim, Kakuru Constance, was a pupil at Kashesha Primary School, residing in Rukarara village.
According to the preliminary investigation, the dreadful events unfolded around 8:00 PM on Ntabarwe hill. Kakuru Constance, accompanied by her twin sister Kato Vastina, was on an errand to pick up their pig in the company of two others, James and Ntuuri. It was during this outing that they encountered the suspect, Joshua, who allegedly lured Kakuru to purchase Waragi for him.
While Kato Vastina insisted that her sister return home, Kakuru chose to stay behind with the suspect and Ntuuri. Concerns grew when Kakuru failed to return home that evening. Kato informed her mother of the situation, and the family began searching for the missing girl.
Tragically, on the morning of January 5, 2024, at approximately 9:00 AM, Yaredi discovered Kakuru’s lifeless body in the banana plantations. The scene was described as horrifying, with signs of sexual assault, possible hitting injuries, strangulation, and bleeding from the nose. The body was found lying face up, with the skirt raised to the thighs and the blouse pulled up to the chest.
Upon closer inspection, authorities recovered Kakuru’s knickers hidden under her body behind the head, stained with blood. The police were immediately informed, and upon arrival, they documented the crime scene before transferring the body to Kihihi Mortuary Hospital for a postmortem examination. The examination confirmed the signs of assault, and the body was subsequently released to the grief-stricken family for burial.
As the community grapples with this tragic loss, inquiries are underway to bring justice to Kakuru Constance and her devastated family. The suspect, Turyasingura Joshua, remains the focal point of the ongoing investigation as the community demands answers and accountability for this senseless act.
