Residents of Kabagahe Cell in Rubanga North Parish, Buyanja Sub-county, Rukungiri District are expressing growing concern over the disappearance of Steven Akanyihayo, who went missing eight years ago.

Steven, a son of Henry Kwijuka Ndegye, reportedly disappeared in 2017 at the age of 17 after allegedly traveling to Mbarara City in search of job opportunities. Despite efforts by the family and a police report filed at the time, his whereabouts remain unknown.

According to family members, Steven was a trained builder who had been supported by Kakinga Community Development Centre (CDC), and was expected to contribute significantly to the well-being of his family and community. His prolonged absence has left his parents and relatives in distress, with his father describing life as difficult due to the uncertainty surrounding his son’s fate.

Community members have also joined the family in appealing for any information that could lead to Steven’s whereabouts. They emphasize that he was a promising young man with a bright future, and his disappearance has left a noticeable gap in the community.

Local leaders, including the LC1 Chairperson of Kabagahe Cell, have called for increased vigilance among residents. They are urging stricter registration and monitoring of new individuals entering the area to strengthen community security and support tracking efforts.

Meanwhile, the Rukungiri District Police Commander has raised concerns about the public’s limited cooperation with law enforcement. He noted that failure to promptly report incidents and work closely with police can hinder investigations and delay justice.

Anyone with information that could assist in locating Steven Akanyihayo is encouraged to contact the family or report to the nearest police station. Alternatively, information can be shared via telephone on 0777 249 029.
