The Rukungiri Municipality Town Clerk, Isaiah Tumwesigye, applauds those who have put the trade order into practice before enforcement and urges those who have not yet done so to do the needful.

Following the meeting the Town Clerk had with the street vendors on 1st April 2026 and another with timber sellers, Tumwesigye revealed that a number of people have complied, with a few hesitating.

Tumwesigye made these remarks on Monday in an exclusive interview with our reporter, reporting that the team has been surveying buildings that are not needed in town and that today, the 21st of April 2026, they will be putting a mark on the unwanted buildings in town. He revealed that this trade order is not being implemented in Rukungiri town alone but also in other parts of the country.

Tumwesigye further revealed that, as the municipality, the enforcement period has not yet started, but the target is unwanted buildings like containers. He added that they have done a survey showing that all timber sellers are supposed to operate from Kagogo, saying that as a council they plan but do not have land to give to people. He added that, just as they are operating where they are, they should look for another place to operate.

He further revealed that by 24/04/2026, on Friday, they will have finished marking and thereafter give a notice of 14 days for everyone with a marked building to remove it, appealing to the public to work closely with the enforcement team by not confronting them for the good of Rukungiri town.
