Police in Mitooma District are actively searching for a 19-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a 2-year-old child. The incident occurred on January 5, 2024, at approximately 7:30 PM in Rwirara 1 village, Ijumo parish, Mitooma sub-county.
The spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi police, Marcial Tumusiime, confirmed the disturbing incident and identified the suspect as Vincent Akili, a 19-year-old porter residing at the mentioned address.
According to Tumusiime, the child’s mother left her in the care of her father, Sumuel Ainebyona, on January 5, 2024, at around 7:00 AM, as she went to work in the garden. Beatrice Tukundane, the mother of the victim, reported that the father later took the child to the grandmother’s house, where the suspect, a paternal uncle to the victim, allegedly found and assaulted her in his bedroom.
Tumusiime added that a medical examination of the victim has been conducted, and she is currently receiving care at Mitooma Health Center IV. Investigations are underway, and authorities are actively pursuing the suspect, Vincent Akili, who is currently evading arrest. The police aim to apprehend him for questioning and to obtain a blood sample for further investigation and comparison.
