Traders in Rwerere Town Council, Rukungiri District, have voiced their dissatisfaction regarding the consumption of contaminated water.
They face challenges with unreliable access to the National Water supply, which is frequently disrupted and costly. In addition, the local springs and boreholes are dysfunctional, leaving them reliant on river water that is contaminated due to competition with livestock, swimmers, and motorcycle cleaners.
Ms. Babra Kesande highlighted these issues and appealed to local leaders for urgent intervention to ensure safe water access for the community. Ivan Nuwagaba Super, Chairperson of the Traders in Rwerere Town Council, criticized leaders for neglecting various challenges such as water scarcity, poor roads, sanitation issues, and insecurity.
Furthermore, Kabot Ndyamweha, Councilor representing Rushoroza Ward, condemned the technical staff for their failure to implement Council resolutions. He emphasized that despite Councilors approving action plans, implementers have neglected their responsibilities.
