The Rukungiri Deputy RDC Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom has advised unsuccessful applicants in the UPDF recruitment not to lose hope but instead focus on other things that will help them develop. He made these remarks this evening while flagging off 105 successful candidates from Rukungiri and Kanungu districts who were recruited and taken to start UPDF training. The event took place in Rukungiri today.

Ahimbisibwe asked those who passed through to be disciplined and respect their training officers during the course, as they will be trained to serve the country.

From Rukungiri district, 57 candidates were recruited, including 45 boys and 12 girls, whereas 48 candidates were recruited from Kanungu, including 34 boys and 14 girls.

Maj. Kiconco Tabaro, the public information officer of the Second Division, revealed that during the process, four shortlisted candidates were found with forged documents. Two of them have been handed over to Rukungiri Central Police Station for further reprimand and will be aligned to court.

He added that the recruitment process was completed apart from the forgery case, and the 105 recruited candidates were transported to start their training.

Brigadier Mugerwa Stephen, the team leader, said the team will conduct the same exercise in Bushenyi district, where they will take two days, and then in Mbarara at Kakyeka, where they will spend three to four days as they conclude the recruitment exercise.

Speaking with our reporter after the recruitment process, parents who blessed their children before setting off appreciated the UPDF’s strategic leadership in implementing a novel strategy for shortlisting applicants. They expressed pride in their children being recruited and wished them well in their course.
