Police in Kisoro District are holding three suspects in connection with a brutal case of aggravated robbery, assault, and malicious damage to property involving a boda boda rider identified only as Ivan, a resident of Busanza Sub-county.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, the incident occurred at around 3:00 a.m. on August 4, 2025, in Shozi Village, Gisorora Parish, Nyakabande Sub-county.

It is alleged that Ivan was caught in a suspected act of adultery and subsequently assaulted by a group of men, including Julius, the bar owner where the incident occurred, and others identified as Mfitimukiza Papius, Ssimwe, and a man known only by the nickname “Vibe.” A concerned citizen, Niyonsenga Jerome, was alerted but was unable to reach the scene in time and instead contacted Happy Rosemary, a nearby resident, to intervene.

Upon reaching the bar, Rosemary witnessed the ongoing assault on Ivan and attempted to intervene, only to be assaulted herself. She managed to escape and observed the assailants pushing Ivan’s motorcycle—a Bajaj Boxer registration number UES 203X—to a roadside trench. One of the suspects reportedly set the motorcycle ablaze after throwing the victim’s clothes onto it.

The matter was later reported to the local area chairperson and then to Nyakabande Police Station. Police responded by visiting the scene, recovering the burnt motorcycle, and rushing the unconscious Ivan to Kisoro Hospital for emergency treatment.

Investigations are ongoing as police continue to trace and apprehend other suspects still at large.
