A shift in leadership has taken place at the Rukungiri District headquarters as Mr. Bron Kikanshemeza officially assumed his new role as the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), bringing a wealth of experience from his previous posting in Rubirizi District.
The transition was marked by a handover ceremony held this morning, August 4, at the RDC’s office in Rukungiri Town. Mr. Kikanshemeza replaces Mr. Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, who has been transferred to Pakwach District after serving Rukungiri for more than four years.
Since last Thursday, the office had been under the temporary leadership of Deputy RDC Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom, who has been overseeing operations ahead of the new RDC’s arrival.
The event was attended by key district figures including Assistant RDCs Karen Kagisha and Mabel Mirembe, Deputy DISO Sam Kamugisha, Jackson Mugarura from the DISO’s office, Deputy CAO Hilary Agaba, and other staff members attached to the RDC’s office.
In his remarks, Kikanshemeza emphasized the importance of taking public service closer to the people. He called on government officials to actively engage with communities and avoid being desk-bound. “We need to be visible and responsive in the field where real issues are,” he said.
He encouraged his deputies and team to serve all citizens fairly and without bias, underscoring his commitment to be a humble public servant focused on improving lives in the district.
Deputy RDC Ongom welcomed his new boss and described Rukungiri’s leadership as united and results-driven. He expressed confidence that the existing collaborative environment will only grow stronger under Kikanshemeza’s stewardship.
The new RDC’s arrival comes at a time when the district is focusing on improving public service delivery, community mobilization, and ensuring peace and security across all sub-counties.
