Thousands of mourners on Tuesday gathered at Rwashamaire High School to bid farewell to prominent businessman and community leader, the late George Kinono.
Kinono, who passed away at the age of 95, had battled diabetes and stroke since 2014. According to family members, he underwent several medical procedures to manage a blood clot in his brain until his health deteriorated in 2025.
Described by his two wives as a loving, caring, and hardworking man, Kinono dedicated his life to the well-being of his family and the development of his community. He is survived by two wives, 15 children, 122 grandchildren, and 48 great-grandchildren.
Kinono was celebrated for his significant contributions to education and economic development in Kajara County. He was one of the founders of Kajara People’s SACCO and Rwashamaire High School, as well as the owner of several coffee factories in the area.
Gen. Mugisha Muntu, who attended the funeral, hailed the deceased as an exemplary leader who remained free of corruption throughout his life. “He was a man who wished everyone well and believed in success for all, not a win-lose situation,” Muntu said, urging Ugandans to remain optimistic for a peaceful transition of power in the country.
Hon. Steven Tashyoba, former Member of Parliament for Kajara and now Commissioner at the Electoral Commission, represented Kinono’s friends. He praised the late businessman for his generosity and commitment to community service. “He believed in improving people’s livelihoods, which is why he started Kajara People’s SACCO to promote savings and development,” Tashyoba said.
Rev. Yoram Ntorine, Archdeacon of Kitunga Church of Uganda, used his sermon to encourage the family to maintain unity and carry forward Kinono’s legacy. “Let your home be a light to others, so that people can continue to learn from the values he lived for,” he urged.
The funeral was a true celebration of the life of a man remembered as a visionary, an educationist, and a pillar of community development in Kajara.
