Kisoro Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Dan Ndikumwami, has cautioned residents against staging further protests over the suspension of elections for Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs).
The elections were halted last week after chaos and violence disrupted the process in several areas.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday morning from his office, Ndikumwami said his office has received petitions from more than 15 villages reporting irregularities in the exercise. Most of the complaints are from Muhindura Parish in Kanaba Sub-county, Chahafi Town Council, and parts of Kisoro Municipality.
Ndikumwami revealed that after receiving the petitions, his office engaged the Kisoro District Health Department, which confirmed it is awaiting feedback from TASO—the organization that funded the elections. TASO is expected to determine whether elections will resume in areas where the process was suspended due to violence and irregularities.
The RDC appealed to the affected villages and wards to remain calm and patient, assuring them that their concerns are being addressed. He emphasized the need to have elected CHEWs in place to ensure proper representation and the smooth delivery of health services.
