Thousands of mourners from all walks of life gathered on Friday in Nyakabare Cell, Kebisoni Town, to bid farewell to the late Robert Mutaahi Nsheka, who passed away on August 12, 2024. He was laid to rest in an emotional ceremony attended by family, friends, and dignitaries.
Born in 1966, the late Mutaahi attended Rumbugu Primary School and Ndama Primary School before progressing to Rugarama Secondary School in Ntungamo. He later joined the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) and eventually retired to care for his ailing parents.
According to his daughters, the late Mutaahi succumbed to kidney failure and lung disease despite receiving treatment at various hospitals. They fondly remembered their father as a loving parent who provided advice, deeply cared for their well-being, and shared many joyful moments with them as a true friend.
Speaking on behalf of the deceased’s friends, Canon Cuthbert Isharahukayo described Robert as a kind-hearted individual who never hesitated to support a friend in need. He emphasized that Robert was a person who could connect with people from all walks of life, regardless of their social class.
Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, the Rujumbura legislator and minister, commended the family of the late John Nsheka for their significant contributions during the 1981 liberation movement. He noted that the late Nsheka played a key role in the efforts that brought the NRM to power, a contribution recognized by President Museveni with a condolence donation of 5 million UGX.
In his sermon, the former North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Patrick Tugume Tusiingwire, urged mourners to live in love and perform good deeds that would prepare them for the Kingdom of God.
The ceremony was also attended by Rubabo County MP Naboth Namanya, Rukungiri Woman MP Natukunda Medius, Rukungiri District Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama, and others.
The late Mutaahi is survived by three daughters and one grandchild.
