Thousands of mourners from across the country gathered on Thursday, 10th October 2024, at Kanombe Cell, Nyabitete Parish, Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District, to attend the funeral service of the late Mzee David Matoha, aged 88.

Mzee David Matoha passed away from old age on Sunday, 6th October 2024, at Victoria University Hospital in Kampala. He is survived by his widow, seven children, 42 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Enock Karamuzi, the Archdeacon of Nyabitete Archdeaconry in North Kigezi Diocese, led the service. He acknowledged Mzee Matoha’s achievements, highlighting that he lived a fulfilling life, took great care of his family, and urged the family members to protect the family’s reputation.

Agaba Emmy Rubondo, the LC3 Chairperson of Buyanja Sub County, described the late Mzee Matoha as a devoted parent who fostered a welcoming family, was a good provider, an education advocate, and a God-fearing man. He encouraged parents to prioritize the care and upbringing of their children to ensure they become responsible adults.

Albert Mugisha Rwamugaata, the District Councilor representing Buyanja Sub County, praised Mzee Matoha’s strong leadership skills, noting his strict principles that guided his children to grow up as vigilant, God-fearing, and well-educated individuals with an admirable family reputation.

James Mugisha, one of the sons of the late David Matoha, thanked God for blessing their father with a long life. He remembered his father as a passionate cattlekeeper who deeply loved his livestock.

Councilor Charles Karahukayo, another of Mzee Matoha’s sons, expressed sadness over the loss of their father, recalling how he skillfully managed cattle. He prayed for his father to rest in eternal peace.
