President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has summoned the 13 contestants vying for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer position in the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament by-election for a meeting in Kampala.

The contestants are: Akifeza Grace Ngabirano, Sylivia Dushime, Igiraneze Winfred Faith, Jemimah Irankunda, Rose Kabagyeni, Blessed Kitentera, Irene Mahirwe, Hellen Mbonye, Nirere Fancy Brenda, Niyikiza Louise, Allen Nkurikiye, Aphia Nyiramahoro, and Eva Twireze.

John Kigyagi Arimpa, Deputy Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, confirmed the development on Thursday evening, announcing that the joint campaigns have been temporarily paused. The candidates have been summoned by President Museveni, who is also the Chairperson of the NRM.

Kigyagi stated that the contestants are expected to travel to Kampala the next day for COVID-19 testing and will meet with President Museveni on Sunday.

While Kigyagi did not reveal the complete agenda of the meeting, he noted that President Museveni is expected to guide on conducting peaceful campaigns.

Upon their return, the candidates will resume their campaigns, with rallies planned in three sub-counties instead of two to compensate for the time lost during the campaign pause.
