The Rukungiri police have reported a fatal traffic accident involving a 17-year-old, Ayesiga Dismus, from Buyanja. The incident occurred on August 21, 2024, around 9:30 AM at Buyanja Town along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo Road in Rukungiri District.
According to the report, the deceased was riding a motorcycle, registration number UFJ623W (Bajaj Boxer), from the Rukungiri side towards Ntungamo at high speed.
He was following a black Harrier and attempted to overtake it near the Gas Fuel Station in Buyanja Town.
While overtaking, he veered out of his lane and tried to brake upon seeing an oncoming vehicle, registration number UAU865J (Isuzu Forward), driven by Byamukama Shaban. The motorcycle collided head-on with the Isuzu, resulting in the rider’s death on the spot.
The scene was examined and documented, relevant statements were recorded, and a postmortem was conducted.
The motorcycle and vehicle have been parked at Buyanja Police Station pending an inspection. The primary cause of the accident has been identified as reckless riding by the motorcyclist.
Inquiries are ongoing.
