The territorial police in Rukungiri are investigating the death of 16-year-old Erias Ahereza, a resident of Nyakagyera Cell, Burora Parish, Nyarushanje Sub County, Rukungiri District.
It is alleged that on an unknown date, Ninsiima Regisi, the stepmother of the deceased, assaulted him and then locked him in a room for a week. On August 19, 2024, around 4:00 PM, a neighbor informed Aston Mutabazi, the LC1 chairman of Nyakagyera Cell, about the incident.
Mutabazi intervened immediately and took the victim to Kebisoni Health Centre. He was subsequently referred to Kisiizi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on August 20, 2024, around 5:00 PM.
The Kiyenje police were notified, and a murder case was registered. The crime scene was examined and documented, the suspect was arrested, and the body was taken to Rwakabengo HC III mortuary for a postmortem.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind this alleged child abuse.
