The territorial police in Kanungu are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 43-year-old Tushabomwe Javira, who allegedly died instantly after being assaulted.
The deceased, a resident of Kishunju Cell, Nyakatunguru Ward, Kihihi Town Council, Kanungu District, was reportedly assaulted by Tumuheirwe Fomia, a woman with whom he shared a residence.
It is alleged that on the night of August 15, 2024, the victim and the suspect had a fight during which she inflicted a critical head injury on him. Despite his injuries, the victim did not report the incident to the police or local leaders and chose to remain indoors.
On August 18, 2024, around midday, the LC1 chairman of Kishunju Cell learned that the victim was in serious condition. Upon visiting him, the chairman found him critically injured and took him to the police.
At the police station, the victim identified his woman friend as the one responsible for his injuries but was unable to provide further details. He was then rushed to Kihihi Health Centre for treatment.
Unfortunately, on August 21, 2024, around 10:00 AM, the victim passed away at Kihihi Health Centre IV after being referred to Kambuga Hospital.
The police were notified, and statements were recorded from witnesses. A postmortem was conducted, and the suspect was arrested. Investigations are ongoing.
