Ms. Sylivia Rutahigwa, the Town Clerk of Buyanja Town Council in Rukungiri District and wife of Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality, has urged parents to curb children’s excessive use of social media and engage them in homestead activities for learning and contribution to family life.
She made these remarks on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, while addressing a congregation during morning mass at Nyakibale Catholic Parish, Kabale Diocese, in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality. On behalf of her husband, she contributed 2 million Ugandan shillings towards the construction of the old church, locally known as Kigango.
Ms. Rutahigwa also reiterated the pledge made by her husband on November 24, 2024, to provide an additional 2 million shillings while officiating at a thanksgiving event organized by the Nyakibale Catholic Women Association in support of the Kigango Hall construction.
She challenged parents to minimize expenditure on hiring maids and instead involve their children in homestead activities to instill responsibility and life skills.
In his homily, Rev. Father Januario Ndyababangi, Assistant Priest at Nyakibale Catholic Parish, commended Dr. Rutahigwa for exemplifying Christian values through his generosity. He encouraged Christians to follow Christ’s example by supporting the needy, including persons with disabilities, to seek blessings through acts of kindness.
