Police in Kanungu District are investigating a tragic incident in which Bernard Turyamureba, 37, was found dead in a pool of blood in his home under suspicious circumstances. Turyamureba, a resident of Bukora Cell, Northern Ward, Kanungu Town Council, was discovered on Friday, September 20, 2024, with a deep cut wound on his neck, a bloodstained panga lying between his legs.

According to reports, Turyamureba had been battling mental health issues, often exhibiting erratic behavior, which family members attributed to what they described as “demonic attacks.” These episodes had reportedly contributed to the separation from his wife, leaving him to care for their 12-year-old child alongside his biological parents.

The tragic event unfolded on the afternoon of September 20. Family members had delivered food to Turyamureba’s house, as was their routine. However, when they returned later to collect the dishes, they found him gravely injured, groaning in pain and surrounded by blood. The alarm was raised, and neighbors, along with Kanungu police officers, rushed to the scene.

Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed that the crime scene was examined, witnesses were interviewed, and the panga used in the incident was recovered as evidence. Turyamureba’s body was taken to Kanungu Health Center IV for examination before being handed over to his family for burial.

The investigation into the incident continues as police work to determine whether it was an act of suicide or if foul play was involved.
