On Sunday, a fundraising event was held for Kazindiro Catholic Church in Rwengiri Parish, Bugangari Sub-county, Rukungiri district. The aim was to gather funds for roofing their new church, which has been under construction.
Demias Bakahirwa, the chairperson of the fundraising organizing committee for Kazindiro Catholic Church, highlighted the financial challenges that have delayed the church’s completion since construction began in 2008. They are currently seeking Shillings 93 million to roof the church.
The Minister of Security and Rujumbura County legislator, in his role as the guest of honor, contributed Shillings 30 million towards roofing the church, with Shillings 10 million given in cash. He pledged ongoing support, having previously donated Shillings 20 million and 100 bags of cement worth Shillings 4 million, totaling his contributions to Shillings 54 million.
The minister also announced plans to extend electricity throughout Bugangari Sub-county, thanks to support from the World Bank. He informed residents that individuals would only need to pay Shillings 50,000 for inspection, urging them to prepare for this opportunity.
Members of Parliament in attendance, including Hon Dr. Elisa Rutahirwa, Hon Medius Kaharata, and Hon Naboth Namanya, praised the unity, commitment, and hard work demonstrated by the Christians of Kazindiro Catholic Church towards the development of their area. They encouraged Bugangari residents to trust in the NRM government for fostering development.
Rev Father Jeremiah Tumwijukye, the Rwengiri Parish priest, expressed gratitude to all those who supported the fundraising efforts, including political leaders and Christians, emphasizing the importance of giving back to God.
Minister Jim Muhwezi also visited Nyakariro Primary School on the same day to monitor the progress of the construction of a multipurpose hall. He had previously supported the project with 400 iron sheets worth Shillings 28 million. During his visit, he laid a foundation stone for the building and pledged to provide the school with a brass band.
Justus Musharaza, the headteacher of Nyakariro Primary School, and Justin Byamukama, the school’s PTA chairperson and Bugangari Sub-county chairperson, stated that the multipurpose hall would provide much-needed space for PLE exams, addressing a significant challenge they had been facing.
