A group of students at Uganda Christian University, Bishop Barham University College in Kabale District, has been compelled to leave the institution due to unfulfilled promises of scholarships.
Among the affected students are Isaac Ampuria, a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Education, as well as Sadas Owamani, America Natukunda, Ebo Atukunda, and Nelson Nankunda.
These students allege that the university, during the marketing phase, assured them of a 50% tuition scholarship, which has not been honored. Approximately 200 disillusioned students are now grappling with uncertainty and financial difficulties, prompting some to return home due to the lack of expected tuition support.
In response to the students’ complaints, Christine Naku Mugaaga, the University Academic Registrar, clarified that the scholarships were intended for the most financially needy students based on the available resources of the university.
