During the closing mass of a three-day retreat at St. Paul’s Vocational Secondary School in Buyanja, Rukungiri District, on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024, Rev. Father Oscar Ahimbisibwe Omusyasya, the Parish Priest of Kishariro Catholic Church, emphasized the importance of students respecting their parents and strengthening their faith in Jesus Christ for a prosperous future.
St. Paul’s Vocational Secondary School has a tradition of organizing retreats at the start of each term to help students shake off any negative influences from the holidays. This particular retreat, led by Father Oscar Ahimbisibwe Omusyasya, Babigumira Serenzio from Kabumba Catholic Church in Kisharara Parish, and Turinawe Sylvia from Yesu Ahurire Community Church in Mbarara, focused on encouraging students to repent for their sins, reconcile with God and their peers, and steer clear of involvement with supernatural powers.
Father Oscar referenced Proverbs chapter 3, which warns against disobedience to parents, emphasizing that it brings curses. He urged students to show respect to their parents, teachers, and to deepen their faith in Jesus Christ for a successful future.
Tuhaise Omujuni Patrick, the head teacher of St. Paul’s Vocational Secondary School Buyanja, affirmed that the term-opening retreat is a standard practice that helps instill discipline and love for the school. He attributed the school’s impressive performance in the last UNEB Examinations, with 27 first grades, to this tradition.
Sister Natuhwera Jennifer, the religious teacher at St. Paul’s Vocational Secondary School Buyanja, who oversaw the retreat, assured that it had strengthened students’ faith, academic excellence, and cooperation.
Tumubwine Judith, the leader of the religious students’ group, commended the school administration for facilitating the retreats, noting that they promote discipline, vision, and a sense of brotherhood.
