In Bushenyi District, two security guards employed by Sting Security Company have been apprehended by the police in connection with the disappearance of a firearm. The incident occurred on the night of December 20, 2023, at M.E Fuel station in Mashonga Cell, Mashonga Ward, Kyamuhunga Town Council, Bushenyi District.
The spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, Marcial Tumusiime, confirmed the incident and identified the suspects as 25-year-old Simpson Tayebwa Simpson and 44-year-old Martin Muyambi. Both individuals are security guards employed by Sting Security Company and are residents of Butare, Kyamuhunga Town Council.
Reportedly, on the early morning of December 20, 2023, around 3:45 AM, the two security guards, armed with a rifle (SAR No PSO UG 564001529/12564) containing 05 rounds of ammunition, discovered that the firearm was missing at M.E Fuel station. The guards promptly informed their supervisor, who subsequently reported the loss or theft of the rifle to Mashonga Police station, citing unclear circumstances surrounding the incident.
At the time of the loss, the security guards were reportedly asleep in one of the vehicles parked at the fuel station. Bushenyi District RDC (Resident District Commissioner) Robert Atuhairwe stated that they are examining all available information but dismissed speculations that the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) could be involved in the incident. He argued that if it were ADF, they would not have spared the guard and would likely have caused further chaos in the area, similar to their actions in other places.
This incident in Kyamuhunga follows an attack on Kitehurizi village in Kamwenge District on Tuesday, where ten people lost their lives.
