The police in Kabale reported the sudden death of 37-year-old Dickson Niwamanya, a resident of Nyakakika Cell, Muyebe Parish, Buhara Sub County, Kabale District. It is alleged that he had been engaged in sand mining at Bukaranga Cell along the Kabale-Katuna road for an extended period.
On June 20, 2024, at approximately 10:00 AM, he left home to mine with an unidentified individual. While at the mining site, a collapse occurred, and he was instantly buried by the soil.
Matsiko Julius, the deceased’s brother, was informed of the incident by the person who had accompanied Dickson to the mine. The news spread until the Officer in Charge (O/C) at Kamuganguzi Police Station was notified, who then informed the O/C of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Kabale. A team of homicide detectives was dispatched to the scene at around 7:20 PM.
The body was found deeply buried in the sand, and the homicide team decided to resume their investigation the following day. However, after the team left, local residents retrieved the body and placed it in an open area. The crime scene was revisited on the morning of June 21, 2024, with a police surgeon present. The body was examined and subsequently handed over to the relatives for a proper burial.
