Rt Rev Callist Rubaramira, the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, has urged Church Leaders to focus on promoting financial inclusion and increasing Church income to ensure the sustainability of the Churches. He made this call today, Friday, June 21, 2024, during the confirmation ceremony of 140 Christians at St Benedicto Ndama Parish in Kebisoni Town Council, Rukungiri District.
Bishop Rubaramira expressed his concern over the recent statistics showing a rise in poverty levels in the Kigezi region, from 12% to 27%, calling it a dangerous trend. He implored Church Leaders to enhance their teachings on financial inclusion and to develop income-generating projects to support the Church’s sustainability. He emphasized the importance of utilizing the skills and knowledge acquired through Diocesan workshops to encourage Christians to work hard, warning that without improvement, Christians may struggle to educate their children and support the Church in the future.
Rev Father Achilles Tumukurate, the Parish Priest of Ndama Parish, welcomed the Bishop and affirmed that the confirmants had been well-prepared to become valued Christians in the future.
Mr. Raymond Rukundo, the Chairperson of the Parish Council of Ndama Parish, highlighted the Church’s projects and praised the Bishop’s Annual Fund (BAAF) for the development it has facilitated. He called on Christians to continually support the Bishop’s initiatives for steady progress.
Mr. James Turyamubona, the Speaker of Rukungiri District and the Godfather of the male confirmants urged parents to set a good example for their children by nurturing Christian values and norms to ensure a strong future faith.
