Former Managing Director of the National Social Security Fund, Mr. Abel Katembwe, has urged parents to prioritize and value their children’s education as a foundation for their future well-being.

Katembwe made these remarks during a visit to Bugangari Primary School in Bugangari Sub-county, Rukungiri District. He revealed that he began his education at this school 70 years ago, in 1954. He shared that his parents initially denied him an education to tend to their cattle, but his godparent, the then Bugangari Sub-county chief, enrolled him in Bugangari Primary School, marking the start of his educational journey.

Expressing his joy at revisiting the school, Katembwe awarded trophies and sports equipment, including balls and a cow, as a token of appreciation for his education. He emphasized that education is the only tool that can equalize people and create better futures, urging parents to support their children’s education despite challenges.

Canon James Byarugaba, the Chairperson of the Board of Governors of Bugangari Primary School, praised Katembwe’s gesture and encouraged other alumni to give back to their former schools. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging and supporting the institutions that laid the foundation for their education.

Benson Kafurere, the school headteacher, thanked Mr. Katembwe for his visit and generous contributions, including sports equipment, a cow, and words of wisdom and encouragement for the current pupils.

Rev. David Owokwesiga, representing the foundation body of Bugangari Primary School and speaking on behalf of the Bugangari Archdeaconry, expressed gratitude to Mr. Katembwe for his visit and support. He also thanked Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, for his efforts in improving schools under the diocese.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Kenneth Mutungi, the Rukungiri District Service Commission Officer; Abel Mutungi, the Rukungiri District Inspector of Schools for Bugangari and Bwambara Sub-counties; and leaders of Bugangari Sub-county, among others.
