Mercy Agaba Tumukunde, the Chief Executive Officer of Steadfin Uganda Savings and Credit Co-operative Limited, emphasized at the 10th Annual General Meeting of North Kigezi Diocese SACCO Limited held at All Saints Church, Rukungiri, that Africans have struggled to achieve economic development due to issues such as selfishness, grudges, and lust.
She pointed out the unique bond between SACCOs and their members compared to banks, emphasizing that SACCOs view their members as part-owners, unlike banks that treat them as mere clients. Mercy urged the members of North Kigezi Diocese SACCO to show love towards the institution by actively participating, opening accounts, and repaying loans promptly, which she believed would contribute to the SACCO’s steady growth.
Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, the SACCO Patron and Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese commended the efforts of the Board Members and Staff in the gradual development of North Kigezi Diocese SACCO. He stressed the importance of the Annual General Meeting as a platform for exchanging ideas between members and the board, essential for SACCO’s progress. Rt. Rev. Onesimus highlighted the critical role of leadership in the success or failure of any institution and encouraged people to embrace hard work and savings in SACCOs as a means of securing their future.
Ven. Rev. Dickens Baguma, the Chairperson of the Board of Directors, expressed gratitude to Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe for his effective mobilization efforts during pastoral visits, resulting in a significant increase in SACCO membership. He pledged the board’s commitment to work diligently for the SACCO’s benefit throughout its tenure.
