Religious leaders from born-again churches in Rukungiri District have appealed to the government to extend the enforcement period for the new trade order regulations affecting churches, saying they need more time to adjust and transition smoothly.

The appeal was made on Friday during the closure of a three-day Open Well Conference held at Rukungiri Community Church in Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.

The annual conference, organized by the church, attracted believers and leaders from various community churches with the aim of renewing faith, strengthening Christian values, and encouraging spiritual growth among followers.

Speaking at the event, Pastor Elaisha Kakwerere expressed support for the government’s introduction of trade order regulations but requested authorities to show sympathy to Pentecostal churches by allowing more time for implementation to enable proper transition.

Pastor Kakwerere also urged Christians to embrace hard work and avoid spending excessive time in churches at the expense of improving the welfare of their families. He encouraged believers to balance prayer with productive activities that can transform their livelihoods.

Another church leader, Pastor Sedrick Bukyana, echoed the call for an extension, noting that Pentecostal churches play a significant role in community development and moral guidance, which should be considered during the enforcement process.

Believers who attended the conference, including Allen Rukundo Biryeija and Pastor Justus Twinamatsiko, emphasized the contribution of churches in fighting immorality, reducing crime, and shaping responsible citizens.

They also praised the conference for renewing their faith, strengthening their zeal for development, and promoting Christian values within communities.
