Police in the Kabale area are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Elias Twizeye, a male Rwandan national and casual worker residing in Kirisa village, Nyombe parish, Kahungye sub-county, Kabale district.

The investigation was initiated following a report received by the OC Kahungye police post from Kabemera Sunday, the chairman of Nyombe village, on the night of 25/03/2024 at approximately 02:00 hours. Sunday reported that unknown individuals had broken into the shop owned by Tugyendenawe Micheal in Nyombe trading center and were in the process of stealing items.

Upon hearing the alarm raised by Sunday, residents intervened, attempting to apprehend the thieves. However, the thieves resisted, resulting in one escaping while another was lynched on the spot.

Upon arrival at the scene, the OC Kahungye police post confirmed the death of the victim, identified as Twizeye Elias, who was employed as a casual worker at the late Ndagijimana’s residence in Kinisa village, Nyombe parish, Kahungye sub-county.

A team of officers from Kabale documented the scene and obtained statements, and the deceased’s body was subsequently transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

The investigation is ongoing, with efforts being made to apprehend those involved for prosecution in the courts of law.
