Police in Ntungamo are currently probing the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a 7-year-old child who was struck by a falling tree at Kabahambi Church School, located near Kabahambi Church of Uganda in Kabahambi village, Kikoni ward, Central Division, Ntungamo Municipality.

The victim, identified as Mbeine Alex, met his demise after being hit by a falling tree while playing in the school compound on Monday morning, as recounted by eyewitnesses.

Eng Gorden Tindimwebwa reported that he intervened to rescue a casual laborer named Ruhangariho Alex from a potentially violent mob seeking to lynch him in the aftermath of the incident. Tindimwebwa then escorted the laborer to the police for safekeeping. He explained that the children were playing in the school compound after skipping class when the tragic event occurred.

While confirming the incident and the subsequent arrest of the casual laborer, the Ntungamo district police commander, Mr. Hannington Bushaija, refrained from providing further details, citing the ongoing investigation and his non-official capacity as police spokesperson.

Expressing condemnation for the incident, Mr. Gordon Babaasa, the Ntungamo municipality education officer, highlighted that municipal authorities were unaware of the school’s existence at the Church premises, as they had never applied for licensing, a mandatory requirement to operate an educational institution.
