Youth in Rukungiri District have been encouraged to actively participate in youth conferences that aim to prepare them for a bright future, both spiritually and mentally, by steering them away from harmful worldly temptations.
This call was made by Pastor Grace Makanda Tundyahebwa during the conclusion of a one-week youth conference held at Rukungiri Full Gospel Church, located in Kigina Cell, Kitimba Ward, Western Division. The conference, which ran from Monday, January 6, is an annual event organized by Full Gospel Churches across Rukungiri at the end of each year.
Pastor Grace emphasized that the conference consistently attracts over 800 youths from various regions. She noted that participants from past conferences have gone on to achieve success, making their families proud.
Joab Twinomujuni, Chairperson of Rukungiri Full Gospel Churches, highlighted that these conferences focus on nurturing spiritual growth, fostering friendships among youth from different areas, and developing their talents through activities such as football, volleyball, and other games. He urged youth to attend these conferences regularly to enrich their lives and secure a better future.
Additionally, Twinomujuni announced plans to establish a youth SACCO (Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization) to enable young people to save money and improve their economic well-being. He appealed to well-wishers for support to help realize this initiative.
Ampumuza Leah, a youth leader in charge of female affairs at the conference, shared that such gatherings provide young women with valuable connections, often leading to job opportunities that improve their living standards. She added that participants are taught how to overcome worldly temptations, which often derail the lives of young people. Ampumuza encouraged more young women to attend these conferences to benefit from the life-changing lessons and opportunities.
Pastor Rwakimiri Geoffrey, one of the conference organizers, emphasized that the primary aim of the event is to help youth grow spiritually in God’s grace. He advised young people to shun destructive behaviors such as drug abuse and prostitution and instead prioritize their relationship with God, which he said is key to securing a prosperous future.
