The annual Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) U20 competitions in Rukungiri District reached an exciting stage on Tuesday as four schools secured their places in the finals for both the boys’ and girls’ categories.
Quarterfinal and semifinal matches were played across several venues, including Rukungiri Main Stadium and Buyanja Town Council playgrounds for the boys, while the girls’ games took place at Rumbugu playground and Kebisoni Town Council playground.
In the boys’ competition, Makobore High School began its strong run by defeating St. Jerome Ndama S.S 4–3 on penalties at Rukungiri Main Stadium during the quarterfinals. The team maintained its impressive form in the semifinals, eliminating Rukungiri High School with a narrow 1–0 victory to secure a place in the final.
Kashenyi Secondary School also started its campaign on a high note, beating Bishop Ruhindi S.S 1–0 in the quarterfinals at Rukungiri Main Stadium. The team later faced St. Gerald’s S.S in the semifinals, where they triumphed 4–3 in a penalty shootout to book their spot in the USSSA U20 boys’ final.
Several teams that had shown promising performances earlier in the tournament, including St. Gerald’s S.S, Rwabukoba S.S, and Bishop Ruhindi H.S, failed to progress to the final stage despite impressive ball possession and goal-scoring opportunities.
In the girls’ U20 category, Kyabugashe High School and St. Paul’s Vocational Secondary School Katojo secured their places in the final after delivering outstanding performances throughout the tournament. Both teams overcame their opponents in matches played at Rumbugu Playground and Kebisoni Town Council Playground.
The finals for both the boys’ and girls’ competitions will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Rukungiri Main Stadium, where the best teams will compete for the district championship titles.
