Residents and meat traders in Kyabugimbi Sub-county have been urged to remain calm following the temporary closure of Kabaare and Mukora butcheries over allegations linked to cattle theft in the area.
According to a notice issued by the Office of the Chairperson LCIII of Kyabugimbi Sub-county dated May 7, 2026, the action follows the discovery of beef suspected to have come from a stolen cow. The meat was reportedly found in the two butcheries owned by Mr. Micheal Rujamba of Kyeigombe B Cell.
In the letter addressed to the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Bushenyi District, local authorities said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure aimed at strengthening security and protecting residents from illegal livestock trade.
The directive ordered the immediate temporary closure of both Kabaare and Mukora butcheries until further notice.
Authorities also directed that no Muslim slaughterman should participate in slaughtering livestock intended for sale in the affected butcheries during the suspension period.
In addition, Mr. Micheal Rujamba was temporarily banned from engaging in livestock trade and meat selling activities within Kyabugimbi Sub-county pending further investigations.
The notice was signed by LCIII Chairperson Aryaguma Apollo, who called for cooperation from residents and local leaders as security agencies handle the matter.
Copies of the communication were also sent to the District Internal Security Officer (DISO), District Police Commander (DPC), GISO, local council leaders, and Uganda Police Force officials in the area to ensure enforcement of the directive.
