The Kanungu District Council, which was held at the District Council Hall in Kanungu Town Council, has today approved a budget of 62.9 billion for the coming financial year after more than one month of review.
The council session, which was presided over by the District Speaker, Hon. Frank Byaruhanga, revealed that this financial year’s budget is expected to promote commercial agriculture, industrial development, market access, and digital transformation. Moreover, he stressed that the Ministry of Water has vowed to facilitate a mega water project worth over 11 billion in the district this coming financial year and attributed all this to the good leadership of the district.
The education department will take the lion’s share with over 27.5 billion, equivalent to 43.81%, followed by the health department with over 13.7 billion, equivalent to 21.86%.
Other allocations include the administration department with 10.3 billion, production and marketing department with 4.4 billion, roads and engineering with 1.8 billion, natural resources management with 1.8 billion, statutory bodies and commissions with 1.2 billion, community-based services with 495.2 million, water with 387.0 million, planning with 315.3 million, finance with 364.0 million, trade, industry and local development with 208.3 million, and lastly internal audit with 143.6 million.
In his remarks, the District Administrative Officer, Mr. Awuye Abdallah, commended the councilors for their cooperation and reaffirmed his determination towards the implementation of the budget.
Meanwhile, the District Chairperson LC5-elect, Hon. Francis Byamukama Kapesha, extended gratitude to district authorities led by the outgoing district chairperson, Eng. Sam Kajonjo, for their commitment towards the development of the district. He called for unity and pledged to cooperate with the incoming councilors and district leaders.
