Police in Rukungiri responded to a tragic road traffic accident involving a white Fuso truck with registration number UBC 786B and a commercial/residential building, resulting in the loss of three lives.

According to reports, on April 6, 2024, around 14:00hrs, the aforementioned truck, loaded with cement and iron sheets and traveling from Rukungiri towards Kihihi, experienced a mechanical failure near Kakirago cell in Bugangari sub-county. As a result, it veered off the road and struck two children who were walking along the roadside after church. Tragically, both children lost their lives. The truck then collided with a building, fatally injuring the owner who was in the shed at the time. The vehicle overturned at the scene.

The victims have been identified as follows, Ahimbisibwe Darius, a 5-year-old boy, son of Turyaikayo Rauben from Nyakinengo, Ainembabazi Sarah, an 8-year-old girl, daughter of Mugisha Bernard from Kakirago cell, and Karwemera Kyoti, a 60-year-old male resident of Kakirago cell, who was the owner of the house struck by the truck.

    The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and is currently at large. The area was investigated, and the bodies were transported to Rwakabengo mortuary for post-mortem examinations. The truck was towed to the police parking yard for further inspection as the investigation into the incident continues.
