Hundreds of FDC supporters gathered at Kizinda playground in Bushenyi District to welcome the former party president, Dr. Kizza Besigye on Saturday.
Addressing the crowd, Besigye highlighted the numerous challenges the FDC party has encountered, attributing some of them to individuals pursuing their interests rather than the party’s collective goals.
Besigye emphasized that despite what the constitution states, the people of Uganda lack real power, as evidenced by the ongoing cycle of poverty perpetuated by government neglect of their well-being.
Francis Mwijukye, the Member of Parliament for Buhweju County in Buhweju District, spoke of internal challenges within the FDC, suggesting that the infiltration of illicit funds has caused strife. He likened the party’s resurgence to a resurrection, emphasizing the Katonga faction’s disapproval of supporting Patrick Amuriat Oboi, which may adversely affect Najjanakumbi.
Waiswa Birigwa, the party chairman, underscored the importance of youth involvement in successful struggles worldwide, urging young people to participate actively.
Vice Chairperson Prosicovia Salam Musumba expressed concern over the current state of the party, noting that some individuals are questioning Dr. Besigye’s status as a founding member of the FDC.
Dr. Besigye and other leaders from the FDC-Katonga faction convened in Bushenyi to consult with dedicated party members on the potential formation of a new party ahead of the 2026 general elections.
