The territorial police in Rukungiri are searching for a motorcyclist responsible for a fatal accident that left one person dead and another critically injured.
The accident occurred on February 4, 2025, at around 9:40 PM in Kakirago Cell, Bugangari Sub-county, along the Rukungiri-Kihihi Highway in Rukungiri District.
A motorcycle, registration number UFW 472E, a red CT Baja, was involved in the incident, ridden by an unidentified motorcyclist who fled the scene. The deceased has been identified as Nabasa Ndoshore, a 38-year-old male resident of Nyakinengo Cell, Bugangari Sub-county. He was a pedestrian and was fatally knocked down on the spot while attempting to cross the road.
The other victim, Nawurira Erias, a 23-year-old casual laborer from Rumira Cell, Bugangari Sub-county, was a passenger on the motorcycle and sustained critical injuries. It is alleged that the motorcyclist was speeding from Rukungiri Town towards Bikurungu when he hit the pedestrian and lost control, injuring his passenger before abandoning the motorcycle and fleeing.
The police were alerted and responded by documenting the scene, retrieving the wreckage, and impounding it at Rukungiri Central Police Station for inspection. The deceased’s body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre mortuary for a postmortem examination, while the injured victim is receiving medical attention at a clinic in critical condition.
Preliminary investigations indicate that overspeeding was the primary cause of the accident, according to ASP Elly Maate, PRO Kigezi.
