The much-anticipated joint campaign rallies for NRM flag bearer aspirants in Rukungiri district have flopped after the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat failed to provide the necessary logistical support to facilitate the events.

According to communication shared by one of the contestants, all aspirants had previously agreed during a recent meeting to conduct joint rallies across the district starting Monday, July 7. However, plans were disrupted after the Assistant Registrar revealed that the NRM Secretariat in Kampala had not responded to requests for key support, including a public address system, security facilitation, and other essential logistics.

“We had all agreed to a unified roadmap for the rallies, but as I speak now, we have not received any support from the Secretariat,” one contestant disclosed in a statement. “We have been advised to instead submit individual campaign schedules to the Rukungiri District NRM office by tomorrow afternoon.”

The failure of the joint rallies has left many aspirants and their supporters disappointed, raising questions about the preparedness and responsiveness of the party’s national leadership during the ongoing party primaries.

This development comes at a critical time when NRM aspirants are intensifying their efforts to win over grassroots support ahead of the party primaries. The lack of coordination from the national office may now force each contestant to mobilize their own resources and independently campaign across the constituency.

Efforts to get a comment from the NRM Secretariat were futile by press time.
