The Member of Parliament for Isingiro South in Isingiro District, Hon. Alex Byarugaba Bakunda, has appealed to the government to investigate and prosecute suspects involved in fueling violence in NRM politics in Isingiro District, which he strongly condemned.
Hon. Byarugaba Bakunda made the appeal during a press conference held in Mbarara, where he mentioned some of the known suspects who are allegedly facilitating goons to destabilize the community and compromise the security of the people.
He revealed the identity of some hooligans who went as far as purchasing pangas, allegedly sponsored by the father of the NRM candidate, Salongo JB Maari.
Byarugaba explained that the current insecurity in Isingiro South Constituency, Isingiro District, is being propagated by none other than Maari. As a non-violent person who loves his party and country, Bakunda stated that he has restrained himself and called upon government security agencies to intervene.
He also condemned the organization of joint campaign rallies in areas where residents had already decided not to hold any public rallies. He prayed that all suspected hooligans be rounded up and taken to appropriate places to ensure the peace and security of the people.
Byarugaba further appealed to authorities to bring Maari Senior to order due to his behavior and apparent belief that he is above the law.
Hon. Byarugaba Bakunda revealed that a case has been reported at Isingiro Police Station under reference number 48/04/07/2025 for assault and malicious damage.
In the latest unfortunate development, one of Hon. Alex Byarugaba Bakunda’s supporters, who was injured during a previous scuffle in which motor vehicles were burnt, has died at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. Police investigations are ongoing.
