Two individuals accused in the murder case of Justus Muhwezi, the former manager of Kings Hotel in Rukungiri, made their initial appearance in the Rukungiri Magistrate Court for the mention of their case Wednesday.
The suspects, identified as William Sebikaru and Akampa Bitakaremire, a boda boda rider believed to have orchestrated the plan to end Justus’s life, were presented before the court.
The fatal incident occurred on December 18, 2023, near Nyakibale Hospital along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo road.
The victim was struck by a Toyota Harrier with registration number UBH 562C, and the nature of the incident suggests a deliberate act.
Following the accident, Sebikaru fled the scene and sought refuge in Kampala. He was apprehended by the flying squad on Jinja road while obtaining a passport for international travel.
During the court session presided over by the Rukungiri Chief Magistrate Her Worship Edith Marry Mbabazi, murder charges were formally read to the accused.
Her Worship Edith Marry Mbabazi stated that the murder case falls outside her jurisdiction. Once the investigations are concluded, the two individuals will be transferred to the high court for trial.
They have been remanded to Rukungiri government prison until February 5, 2024, when they are scheduled to appear in court for further proceedings related to their case.
