Members of the Rukungiri Municipality Timber and Carpenters Association have been lauded for their effective utilization of the donation received from President Museveni in 2018. Edmund Bashasha, a State House official, commended the association for following the presidential directive on poverty eradication and emphasized the importance of cooperation and unity among its members.
Bashasha revealed that some groups that received support from the government unfortunately wasted their donations. However, the Rukungiri Municipality Timber and Carpenters Association, also known as Butimba Carpenters, stood out by efficiently utilizing the carpentry machines provided to them. Due to their success, President Museveni has pledged to support the association again with 50 million, facilitated by Mrs. Jane Barekye, the State House Comptroller.
Encouraging the youth to acquire valuable skills for the future, Bashasha expressed gratitude to Sezi Turinawe, a Rukungiri-based carpenter, for contributing to youth skill development, particularly among school dropouts.
Seth Turinawe, currently providing free carpentry training to youth, appealed to the government, through its State House representative, for support in acquiring carpentry training equipment. Turinawe highlighted that this initiative aims to reduce unemployment and idleness among youth in villages.
In response to Turinawe’s request, Bashasha encouraged him to submit a formal request, assuring that they would consider providing the necessary carpentry equipment and other resources to facilitate the training of youth.
Geoffrey Kyomukama, the Rukungiri District Chairperson, also pledged his support for the youth carpentry training initiative.
